Join the CMCA for a panel discussion and networking event with three representatives from artist residency programs around the state. Chantal Harris (Monson Arts), Leith MacDonald (Monhegan Artists’ Residency), and Yael Reinharz (Surf Point Foundation) will engage in a discussion moderated by CMCA’s Executive Director and Chief Curator, Tim Peterson. The event will include light refreshments served in our lobby and a public reception where attendees are encouraged to ask questions and network with the residency representatives.

Monson Arts is a residency and workshop program in Monson, Maine. An initiative of Maine’s Libra Foundation, Monson Arts began programming in 2018. Monson, the last town before the 100 Mile Wilderness on the Appalachian Trail, was the home of photographer Berenice Abbott, painter Carl Sprinchorn, and was a center for slate quarrying and furniture making. Monson Arts’ mission is to provide time and space for creative work. This is done through a combination of residencies, workshops, community/school programs and initiatives, and exhibitions.
The Monhegan Artists’ Residency provides free comfortable living quarters, studio space, a stipend of $150 per week, and time for visual artists to reflect on, experiment, or develop their art while living in an artistically historic and beautiful location. Each summer they offer three residencies for artists with strong connections to Maine: two 5-week sessions, and one 2-week session specifically for K-12 visual art teachers.
Surf Point Foundation provides time, space and support for members of the visual arts community to think, connect and create. In keeping with the vision of our founders, arts patron Mary-Leigh Smart and artist Beverly Hallam, Surf Point offers nominated artists and art professionals three-week live-work residencies in a boldly Modernist home on the coast of York, Maine.
